Genus: Cricosaurus WAGNER, 1858
Etymology: Greek, cricos, "ring" and Greek, sauros, "lizard"; Ring lizard; in reference to the large sclerotic rings preserved in the orbits of the holotype.

Species: bambergensis SACHS, YOUNG, ABEL, & MALLISON, 2019
Etymology: Named after the city of Bamberg, Bamberg District, Bavaria State, Southern Germany; where the specimen is housed and that is the namesake of the Bamberg District, which encompasses the type locality at Wattendorf.

Holotype: NKMB-P-Watt14/274

Locality: Kalk- und Dolomitbruch der Andreas Schorr GmBh, Wattendorf, Bamberg District, Bavaria State, Southern Germany.

Horizon: Wattendorf Member, Torleite Formaton.

Biostratigraphy: Aulacostephanus pseudomutabilis Tethys Ammonite Zone.

Age: Late Kimmeridgian Stage, Middle Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: Nearly complete skull with articulated skeleton.

Etymology: In honor of palaeontologist Raimund Albersdörfer for making teh specimen avaialbe to science.

Holotype: BMMS-BK 1-2

Locality: Rygol Quarry, Painten, Bavaria Sate, Germany.

Horizon: Arnstorf Member, Torleite Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Lithacoceras ulmense Subzone, Hybonoticeras beckeri Tethyian Ammonite Zone.

Age: Upper Kimmeridgian Stage, Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: Skull and nearly complete skeleton.
