Genus: Shansisaurus CHENG, 1980
Etymology: In reference for Shanxi (Shansi) province, China, where the fossil was found, and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: Shanxi lizard.

Holotype: IVPP V6722

Locality: Liulin, Shanxi Province, China.

Horizon: Upper Shihtienfeng Formation.


Age: Late Permian.

Material: Right lower jaw, 23 vertebrae, left scapula-coarcoid, claviclar girdle, left fore-limb and the bones of the left fore-foot, some ribs and scutes.
