Etymology: Tenon (Greek; masculine), sinew, in reference to ossified tendons along the vertebral column, and sauros (Greek, masculine), lizard.

Species: dossi WINKLER, MURRY & JACOBS, 1997
Etymology: In honor of James Doss who together with is wife Dorothy donated the specimens.

Holotype: Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, Fort Worth Texas, FWMSH 93B1

Locality: SMU 226-1, Doss Ranch, Parker County, Central Texas.

Horizon: Twin Mountains Formation, Trinity Group.
