Genus: Carentonosaurus RAGE & NERAUDEAU, 2004
Etymology: Latin, Carentonia, "Charente", a river close to Madame Island, and Greek, sauros, 'lizard'.

Species: mineauorum emend RAGE & NERAUDEAU, 2004
Etymology: In honor of Mr. Mineau and his family for thier kind assistance during field work.

Holotype: MNHN IMD 21

Locality: Madame Island, Department of Charente Maritime, Western France.

Horizon: Dm unit.

Material: A mid- or posterior dorsal vertebra.
