Etymology: Greek, dory, "spear" and Greek, gnathos, "jaw" + us: in reference to the spear-like toothless point at the tip of the lower jaw.

Etymology: In reference to Banz, Northern Bayern (Bavaria) State, Germany, the locality where the specimen was found.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Lower Toarcian Stage, Upper Lias Epoch, Late Early Jurassic.

Material:

SMNS 18880 (Tubigen Specimen): Most of both forelimbs and one hindlimb.

Note: With stomach contents of a partially disgested Leptolepis sp (COOPER, SMITH & MARTILL, 2024).
