Genus: Futabasaurus SATO, HASEGAWA & MANABE, 2006
Etymology: After the Tutaba Group from which the holotype specimen of the type and only species and Greek, sauros, 'lizard'.

Species: suzukii SATO, HASEGAWA & MANABE, 2006
Etymology: In honor of Mr. Tadashi Suzuki who discovered the holotype.

Locality: Uppermost stream of east branch of the Shimo-Kinenbetsu River, a tributary of the middle steam of the Obirashibe River, Northwestern Hokkaido Island, Japan.

Age: Lower Santonian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material:

Obira specimen. 2: 6 vertebrae, 8 ribs, and an ischium.

Note: The jaws of the Vampyromorpha Provampyroteuthis giganteus are in the gut area.
