Genus: Futabasaurus SATO, HASEGAWA & MANABE, 2006
Etymology: After the Tutaba Group from which the holotype specimen of the type
and only species and Greek, sauros, 'lizard'.
Species: suzukii SATO, HASEGAWA & MANABE, 2006
Etymology: In honor of Mr. Tadashi Suzuki who discovered the holotype.
Holotype: NSM PV15025
Locality: A riverside outcrop, 37°10'05"N, 140°58'05"E, on the Ohisa River, Itakizawa, Ohisa Town, Iwaki city, Fukushima Prefecture, Honshu Island, Japan.
Horizon: "D bed", Irimazawa Member, Tamayama Formation, Futaba Group.
Biostratigraphy: Inoceramys amakusensis Zone.
Age: Santonian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.
Material: Fragmentary skull and fragmentary skeleton.
Note: Has tooth marks from the extinct lamniform shark Cretalamna (= Cretolamna) appendiculata SHIMADA, TSUIHIJI, SATO & HASEGAWA, 2010; Tooth tips in the right humerus, posterior cervical vertebra, dorsal vertebra, nerual spine.
