MEYER & HUNT, 1999
Locality: St. Niklaus, Solothurn Canton, Switzerland.
Horizon: Turtle limestone.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Kimmeridgian Stage, Middle Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.
Material:
Naturmuseum Ssolothurn, NMS 20’870: Wing phalanx II.
Note: This would be the largerst Pterosaur in the Late Jurassic with a wingspane
from 3.5-5 m.
Note: There are round compression fractures on the phalanx which are consistent with tooth impacts. Meyer & Hunt suggest the tooth marks were made during scavenging of the pterosaur carcass. A possible scavenger is the large mesosuchain aquatic crocodile Machimosaurus, which is known to have fed on marine turtles (Meyer, 1994).
