Etymology: In honor of David S. Berman for his decades of research on fossils of sphenacodontians and others from the Bears Ears region of southern UTha, and which laid the foundation for the present study.

Holotype: CM 96529

Locality: Birthday Bonebed locality (CM locality no. 3345), Valley of the Gods, San Juan County, SE Utah.

Horizon: Halgaito Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Pennsylvian Subperiod, Late Carboniferous Period-Early Permian.

Material: Isoalted left dentary.
