Etymology: Latin, Carinthia, for Karnten, the southernmost federate state of Austria where the specimen was discovered and Greek, suchus, "crocodile": Thorn crocodile.

Species: kandutschi DALLA VECCHIA & CAU, 2026
Etymology: In honor of Georg Kandutsch (Arriach/hinterwinkl, Austria) who disovered the holotype.

Holotype: Nockalm 7030u

Locality: Southern flank of Mt. Groβboden NE of Jadersdorf in the Gitschtal close to Hermajor, Carinthia, SE Austria.

Horizon: Partnach-Schichten/Fellback Kalk.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Ladinian Stage, Latest Mid Triassic Epoch, Latest Middle Triassic-lowermost Carnian Stage, Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Part of the skull including the right maxilla with 2 teeth, part of 2 mandibular rami, parts of th emid-distal portion of the tail with osteoderms.
