Etymology: Latin, effigia, "ghost."

Etymology: In honor of Georgia O'Keeffe of her numerous paintings of the badlands at Ghost Rhanch and her interest in the Coelophysis Quarry when it was discovered.

Locality: Ghost Ranch Quarry or the Whitaker Quarry, SE 1/4, SE. 1/4, SW 1/4, Section 1, Township 24 North, Range 4 East, Rio Arriba County, New Mexico.

Horizon: Rock Point Formation, Chinle Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Apachean, Late Norian Stage, Upper Late Triassic Epoch, Late Late Triassic.

Material: An articulated skeleton including a nearly complete skull.

AMNH FR 30588: Articulated pelvis, femur and caudal vertebrae.

AMNH FR 30589: A partial skull with associated cervical vertebrase and partial hind limbs.
