Etymology: Tupi-Guarani, Kuruxu, "Southern Cross constellation" and Greek, champsi, "crocodile."

Etymology: In honor of Dr. Jose Eduardo Figueiredo Dornelles, whose work on Brazilian proterochampsids with the foundation of the contribution presented here.

Locality: Schöenstatt Site, Schöenstatt Sanctuary area, 52°27'0.5"W, 29°44'26.2"S, Santa Cruz do Sul Municipality, approximately 150 km from the state Capital, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul State, South Brazil.

Horizon: Santa Maria Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Santacruzodon Assemblage Zone.

Age: Carnian Stage, Lower Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Fragmentary skull, mandible, and left and right femora, and left tibia.
