Etymology: In honor of Friedrich von Huene, who unfortunately proposed the genus-group name Prestosuchus in 1938 (repeated in 1942) using a notation fo rfixation of the type-species that would be suppressd shortly soon, being only valid before th year 1931 (cf. Art. 68.2.1), and Greek, -suchus, "crocodile"; the name used by ancient Egyptians from Arsinoe (today el-Fayyum) for crocodiles.

Biostratigraphy: Dinodontosaurus assemblage zone.

Age: ? Late Ladinian Stage, Upper Mid Triassic Epoch or ?Early Carnian Stage, Lower Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Dentary, anterior angular, premaxilla, fragmentary dorsal vertebrae, posterior left and right humerus, scapula coracoid, gastralia, caudal vertebrae, left ischium, pubis, left femur, left tibia, left fibula, pes.

Paratype: BSPG 1933L/7:

Note: as per KISCHLAT & BARBERNENA, 1999…Thus, the type-series of P. chiniquensis is, probably, a composite of two taxa. The paralectotype agrees with the material housed in the UFRGS, but none of them agree with the lectotype…

Horizon: Alemoa Member, Santa Maria Formation, Rosario do Sul Group.

Biostratigraphy: Dinodontosaurus Biozone.

Age: Ladinian Stage, Upper Mid Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material:

UFRGS-PV-0629-T: A nearly complete specimen, composed of a complete but disarticulated skull, complete presacral vertebrae sequence (8 cervical, 13 dorsal) 2 sacral, and 3 caudal vertebrae, complete scapular and pelvic girdle, mostly complete appendicular elements, composed of both humerii, proximla portions of the left ulna and radius, 1 left metacarpal of an anterior manus, femora, a rigth tibia and fibula, and three isolated phalanges of a pes.

ULBRA-PVT-281: Skull, dentary, cervial, dorsal vertebrae, ribs, scapulae, tibia, fibula, manus, and cervical osteoderms.
