Genus: Riojasuchus BONAPARTE, 1969
Etymology: In reference to the La Rioja Province, Argentina where the specimen was found, and Greek, souchus, "crocodile."

Locality: Quebrada de los Jachaleros, Epto Gral Lavelle, La Rioja Province, Argentina.

Horizon: Upper levels of the Los Colorados Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Norian Stage, Upper Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Skull and dentary, atlas and axis, cervical 3-9, dorsals 10-24, 3 sacral, 3 caudals, distal end of scapula, nearly complete coracoid, distal end of radius and ulna, pubis, metacarpals, phalange of one, carpus, tibia and fibula, astraglus and calcanum, pes.

Referred specimens:

PVL 3828: Nearly complete skull,32 partially articulated vertebrae (20 presacral, 12 caudal), incomplete scapulocoracoids, humeri, radius, and ulnare, 1 carpal element isolated, left ilium and fragmentary ischium, left femur, incomplete right femure, tibiae and fibulae, left calcaneum and several disarticualted phalanxes.

PVL 3826: 28 vertebrae (19 presacral and 9 caudal) partially articulated, 2 fragmentary scapulocoracoids, right humerus, fragments of the radius and ulna, incomplete right ilium, distal end of the left femur, and a fragmentary tibia.

PVL 3814: Poorly preserved isolated vertebrae, proximal end of a humerus, fragment of a tibia, adn several isolated osteoderms.
