Etymology: Sierrita, after Sierrita de la Cruz Creek, Potter County, Texas, where the specimen was collected, and Greek, souchus, for the Egyptian crocodile-headed god.

Etymology: In honor of Archie Justus MacAlpin, late geology professor at University of Notre Dame who collected this specimen.

Locality: Breaks of the Sierrita de la Cruz Creek, 1.5 kilometers east of Rotten Hill, 38 kilometers north-west of Amarillo, Potter County, Texas.

Horizon: Tecovas Formation, Dockum Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Latest Carnian or Earliest Norian Stage, Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Partial skeleton consisting of cervical and dorsal paramedian plates, at least 15 lateral plates of the cervical and dorsal regions, 7 cervical cenra, 1 dorsal centrum, 1 neural arch from the dorsal vertebral region, and partial vertebrae including isolated neural spine tables and transverse processes.
