Genus: Aerotitan NOVAS, KUNDRAT, AGNOLIN, EZCURRA, AHLBERG, ISASI, ARRIAGADA, & CHAFRAT, 2012
Etymology: Greek, aeros, "air" and Greek, Titan, after the giants of the Greek Mythology: because the new genus was a large flying reptile.

Species: sudamericanus NOVAS, KUNDRAT, AGNOLIN, EZCURRA, AHLBERG, ISASI, ARRIAGADA, & CHAFRAT, 2012
Etymology: In reference to South America, where the specimen was found.

Holotype: MPCN-PV 0054

Locality: Close to the Bajo de Arriagada Fossil Site, around 90 km southeast of General Roca, and 80 km northeast of the well-sampoled Bajo de Santa Rosa Locality, Rio Negro Province, Argentina.

Horizon: Allen Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Campanian-Maastrichtian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Partial rostrum.
