Etymology: Greek, batrakhos, "frog" and Greek, gnathos, "jaw"; in reference to its short wide head, like a frogs.

Species: volans RIABININ, 1948
Etymology: Latin, volan, "flying"; i.e. flying frog jaw.

Holotype: PIN 52-2

Locality: Aulie, near Mikhailovka, Chayan area, Karatau ridge, Chimkent district, southern Kazakhstan.

Horizon: Intermontae lake, Karabastauian suite, Karabastau Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Oxfordian/Kimmeridgian Stage, Lower-Middle Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: Premaxilla, maxilla, humerus, coracoid, ulna, metacarpals 1-3, sternum, femur, tibia, fibula, metatarsals 1-5, ribs and dorsal vertebrae.
