Latin, cascus, "ancient, primitive" and Latin, cauda, "tail."
Species: rong YANG, BENTON, HONE, XU, McNAMARA & JIANG, 2022
Etymology: The specific name is from Chinese character rong, as used in the phrase mao rong rong, meaning 'a fluffy appearance,' wich refers to the extensive integumentary covering (Yang et al, 2019).
Holotype: NJU-57003 (part and counterpart)
Locality: Mutoudeng, Qinglong County, Hebei Province, China.
Horizon: Tiaojishan Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Middle Jurassic.
Material: Skull and skeleton.
