Etymology: Chinese, fei, “flying” and Chinese, long, “dragon”; feilong, meaning flying dragon.

Etymology: In honor of the late Chinese paleontologist C.C. Young, who described the first pterosaur from China.
Holotype: IVPP V-12539
Locality: Heitizigou in Beipiao, Liaoning Province, China.
Horizon: Jiangshangou Member, Yixian Formation, Jehol Group.
Age: Barremain Stage, Lower Gallic Subepoch, Lower Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.
Material: Skull and mandible.
