Etymology: Liaoxi, the fossil locality, western part of the Liaoning Province,
and Greek, -pterus, wing, the suffix of pterosaurs.
Species: brachyognathus DONG & LU, 2005
Etymology: Greek, brachy-, 'short', and Greek, gnathus, 'jaw'; in reference
to the short jaw of the pterosaur.
Holotype: CAR-0018 (Jilin University).
Locality: Liaoxi, Chaoyang City, Chaoyang County, Liaoning Province, China.
Horizon: Horizon IV, Jiufotang Formation, Upper Jehol Group.
Biostratigraphy: Psittacosaurus fauna, Cathayornis-Chaoyanga Avifauna.
Age: Barremian Stage, Lower Gallic Subepoch, Lower Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.
Material: A nearly complete lower jaw.
