Etymology: Native Tehuelche, mel, "in spanish/English ala/wing" and native Tehuelche, kamter, "lagarto grande/big lizard":after the orginal translation of pterosaur or winged lizard.

Etymology: Native Tehuelche, pateko is derived from 'pate rallado/rasped' and mative Tehuelche, ko, 'conjunto de huesos/set of bones': an ode to both the site of Queso Rallado, and the fractured preservational state of the fossil.
Holotype: MPEF-PV 22530
Locality: Locality Queso Rallado, close to Cerro Condor, north central Chubut Province, Patagonia. Argentina.
Horizon: Lower section of the Canadon Asfalto Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Tithonian Stage, Upper Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.
Material: Partial cranium (with coutner slab) 2 assocaited teeth, 4 dorsal vertebrae, 1 metacarpial (either I, II or III) and other bone fragments.
