Genus: Moganopterus LÜ, PU, XU, WU, & WEI, 2012
Etymology: Generic name refers to a combination of the first two words of the two famous names of a sword in Chinese History: Moye and Ganjiang. Moye means female and Ganjiang means male, which are never separated from each other. Here it refers to the very long upper and lower jaws, and Greek, pterus, "wing."

Etymology: In honor of Ms Zhu Haifen, who offered the specimen for scientific research.

Holotype: Henan Geological Museum 41HTTT0419

Locality: Xiaosanjiazi Village, Lamadong Town, Jianchang County, Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Yixian Formation.

Biostratiraphy:

Age: Early Cretaceous.

Material: Nearly complete skull and 3 cervical vertebrae.
