Etymology: Generic name for Normannia, the ancient name of Normandy and Greek, gnathos, "jaw": Normannia jaw.

Species: wellnoferi BUFFETAUT, LEPAGE & LEPAGE, 1998
Etymology: In honor of Dr. Peter Wellnhofer (Munich), a great expert on pterosaurs, and a great friend of the senior author.

Holotype: Musee Geologique Cantonal de Lausanne, number 59’583

Locality: Cliffs of Ecqueville, Octeville, Seine-Maritime Department, Haute-Normandie, France.

Horizon: Argiles d’Ecqueville.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Upper Kimmeridgian Stage, Middle Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: Associated upper and lower jaws on a block of clay.
