Etymology: "Orient" derives from the Latin, orines, "east" and Greek, gnathus, 'jaw: Orientognathus means "pterosaur from the east".

Etymology: In refenerence to where the specimen was found, Chaoyang County, Liaoning Province, China.

Holotype: HGM 41HIII-0418

Locality: Jucaigou, Dongshan Village, 41°13'9"N, 120°5'51"E, Shengli Town, Chaoyang County, Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Tuchengzi Formation.

Age: Early Cretaceous.

Material: Fragmentary skull and skeleton.
