Etymology: Chinese Pinyin, Pangu, "creator of the universe" in Chinese mythology and Greek, pterus, a declension of pteron, "wing."  

Species: liui LÜ, LIU, PAN, & SHEN, 2016
Etymology: In honor of Jun Liu, who offered the specimen for scientific research.

Holotype: BPMC-0002

Locality: Sihedang, Lingyuan County, Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Jiufotang Formation, Upper Jehol Group.

Biostratigraphy: Aptian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: A nearly complete lower jaw.
