Etymology: in reference to the Chinese administrative unit Chaoyang, Liaoning Province, north-eastern China, where
the holotype was found.

Locality: Chaoyang, Liaoning Province, north-eastern China.
Horizon: Jiufotang Formation.

Age: Early Aptian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.
Material: Skull and nearly complete skeleton.
