Etymology: Greek, eo, "dawn, early" and Greek, herpeton, "crawling, creeping, reptile."

Etymology: In honor of Prof. D. M. S. Watson.

Holotype: RSM 1950.56.1

Locality: Unknown-possibly Venturefair pit, Gilmerton, near Edinburgh, mid-Lothian Province, Scotland, northern United Kingdom.

Horizon: No associated data-probably Gilmeton Ironstone (=Rough Parrot Coal), Lower Limestone Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Lothian basin (p2 Goniotites zone), upper Visean, uppermost Dinantion, Visean Epoch, Early Carboniferous (Early Late Mississippian).

Material: A crushed skull in ironstone including both jaw rami with fragments of the pectoral girdle.
