Genus: Albertonectes KUBO, MITCHELL & HENDERSON, 2012
Etymology: Alberto-, referring to the Candian province of Alberta, where the holotype was found, and Greek, -nectes, "swimmer."

Species: vanderveldei KUBO, MITCHELL & HENDERSON, 2012
Etymology: In honor of Rene Vandervelde, who started Korite International. This elasmosaur fossil would never have been found, were it not for the company mining for gem quality ammonites.

Locality: About 150 meters south of St. Mary River, near Lethbridge, 49°31'14"N, 112°53'31"W, Alberta Province, Canada.

Horizon: Bearpaw Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Campanian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: 132 vertebrae from atlas-axis complex to fused posterior caudals, pectoral girdle, incomplete pelvic girdle, almost complete fore- and hind limbs, disarticulated ribs, a gastralium, and at least 97 gastraloths.
