Etymology: Anar (“the other”), a dwarf in Norse mythology (Voluspa 11 & 15), alluding to the animals small size, and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: Anar’s lizard.

Etymology: Latin, pumilio, "dwarf."

Holotype: Institut und Museum fur Geologie und Palaontologie, Georg-August-Universitat, Gottingen.

Locality: Rembersleban 15km west of Magdeburg, Saxony-Anhalt State, Germany.

Material: Skull and fragmentary skeleton.

Note: Destroyed during WWII.
