Etymology: In reference to the type locality, the Augusta Mountains in Nevada and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: Augusta Mountain lizard.

Species: hagodorni SANDER, RIEPPEL & BUCHER, 1997
Etymology: In honor of Dr. H. C. Hans Hagdorn (Ingelfingen, Germany) for his generous and wide ranging assistance in out (the authors) research on marine reptiles in the European Triassic.

Holotype: FMNH PR 1774

Locality: Sec. 12, T25N, R39E, Muller Canyon, Augusta Mountains, southeastern most Pershing County, Nevada.

Horizon: From laminated mudstones in the Fossil Hill Member, Favret Formation, Star Peak Group.

Biostratigraphy: Basal Rotelliformis Zone.

Age: Late Anisian Stage, Lower Mid Triassic Epoch, Middle Triassic.

Material: Nearly complete skull, cervical, anterior trunk region with pectoral girdle and forelimbs.
