Etymology: Greek, borealis, "northern" and Greek, -nectes, "swimmer," "northern swimmer";
in refernce to the occurrence in the northern high latitudes.
Species: russelli SATO & WU, 2008
Etymology: In honor of Dr. Dale A. Russell for his contribution to the study
of Mesozoic reptiles in the Canadian Arctic, including the collection of the
holotype.
Holotype: CMN 40729
Locality: Cape Grassy, Melville Island, 76°09'04"N, 113°30'00"W, North West Territories, Canadian Arctic Archipelago, Canada.
Horizon: Hiccles Cove Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Callovian Stage, Upper Dogger Epoch, Late Middle Jurassic.
Material: Skull, cervical vertebrae and right forelimb.
