Genus: Boyacasaurus BENAVIDES-CABRA, GARAVITO-CAMACHO, PARAMO-FONSECA & POMAR, 2025
Etymology: In reference to Boyaca, a region of Colombia where the fossils were found and Greek, saurus, "lizard."

Species: sumercei BENAVIDES-CABRA, GARAVITO-CAMACHO, PARAMO-FONSECA & POMAR, 2025
Etymology: Colombia Spanish, sumerce, 'you'. It is characteristic of the Cundiboyacence Plateau region, Eastern Cordillera, Central Colombia (Region where the fossil was found).

Holotype: CFSTA 2-1

Locality: Monsalve Hill, Villa de Leyva, 5°38'34"N, 73°35'10"W, Boyaca Province, Colombia.

Horizon: Arcillolitas abigarradas Member, Paja Formation.Lower part of the segment E of Etayo-Serna.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Upper Aptian Stage, Gallic Subepoch, Late Early Cretaceous Epoch, Late Early Cretaceous.

Material: A fragmentary skull and a partially articualted atlas-axis complex.
