Etymology: In reference to the Muta village where the holtoype was collected.

Holotype: HFUT MT-21-08-001

Locality: Abandoned quarry about 1 km northwest of Muta Village, Luxi County, Yunnan Province, China.

Horizon: Upper Member, Guanling Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Anisian Stage, Lower Mid Triassic, Lower Middle Triassic.

Material: Skull nd nearly complete skeleton of a juvenile.
