Genus: Dianopachysaurus LIU, RIEPPEL, JIANG, AITCHISON, MONTANI, ZHANG, ZHOU & SUN, 2011
Etymology: The genus name is derived from the Chinese abbrevation, DIAN for the Yunnan Province, where the holotype was collected, and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Locality: Dawazi Village, Luoping County, Yunnan Province, China.

Horizon: Member 2, Guanling Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Pelsonian, Anisian Stage, Lower Mid Triassic Epoch, Lower Middle Triassic.

Material: A nearly complete and articulated skeleton.
