Genus: Djupedalia KNUTSEN, DRUCKENMILLER & HURUM, 2012C
Etymology: In honor of Østein Kare Djupedal, Norway's Minister of Education and Research from 2005-2007, whose commitment to the Jurassic marine reptile project made the excavations in Svalbard possible.

Species: engeri KNUTSEN, DRUCKENMILLER & HURUM, 2012C
Etymology: In honour of Øynid Enger, long-time PMO volunteer who has been involved in the discovery and collection of marine reptiles in Svalbard for many years.

Holotype: PMO 216.839

Locality: The northeastern slope of the Janusfjellet, Spitsberge, Svalbard, Norway.

Horizon: 20 meters below the Dorsoplanites Bed, Slottsmøya Member, Ajardhfjellet Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Dorsoplanites ilovaiskyi to Dorsoplanites maximus ammonite zone.

Age: Middle Volgian (Tithonian Stage), Upper Malm Epoch, Upper Late Jurassic.

Material: Semiarticulated skeleton of a juvenile plesiosaur including a partial lower jaw and incomplete left quadrat and squamosal, a partial cervical and dorsal vertebral series, several articulated cervical ribs, disarticulated cervical and dorsal neurla arches, disarticulated dorsal ribs and gastalia, an incomplete pectora girdle and two partial forelimbs, both pubes and one incomplete hindlimb.
