Etymology: In honor of the German palaeontologist Hermann von Meyer who porposed the now defunct generic name 'Thaumatosaurus' (wonder reptile) once popularly applied ot specimen SMNS 12478

Locality: Holzmaden, Baden-Wurttemberg State, Germany.

Horizon: Posidonien-Schiefer, Lias epsilon II, 3 (ntererSchiefer),Upper Liassic.

Biostratigraphy: falciferum ammonite zone, elegantulum-falciferum subzones.

Age: Lower Toarcian Stage, Upper Lias Epoch, Late Early Jurassic.

Material: Skull and skeleton.
Note: A single gastrolith.
