Etymology: From Monquira, eh Vereda (administrative division) in which the holotype was discovered, and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Etymology: Named after the Province Boyaca in Columbia.

Locality: Vereda Monquira, 5km WNW of the Villa Leyva, Province Boyaca, Columbia.

Age: Late Aptian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Crushed skull and fragmentary skeleton.
