Etymology: Paha Sapa, Sioux Indian words meaning Black Hills, and Greek, sauros,
‘lizard’.

Species: haasi SCHUMACHER, 2007
Etymology: In honor of Charles C. Haas, who discovered, collected, and initially
prepared and researched the specimen.
Holotype: AMM 98.1.1
Locality: Along Maloney Creek, just south of the Belle Fourche River, roughly 6 miles (8 km) southeast of Fruitdale, T7N, R4E, Butte County, South Dakota.
Horizon: Base of the Greenhorn Limestone.

Biostratigraphy:
Age: Early Late Cenomanian Stage, Upper Gallic Subepoch, Lowermost Gulf Epoch, Middle Cretaceous.
Material: Partial skull, portions of left front and rear paddles, poorly preserved vertebral column and rib portions.
