Etymology: In reference to the village of Serpiano at the foot of Mt. San Giorgio, Switzerland, near where the specimen was found, and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: Serpiano’s lizard.

Locality: Historical limestone quarry, Heteborn, Saxony-Anhalt State, Middle Germany.

Horizon: Karlstadt Formation, mm1 substage, basal Middle Muschelkalk.

Age: Latest Pelsonian substage, Anisian Stage, Mid Triassic Epoch, Middle Triassic.

Material: Dorsal vertebral colum, dorsal and gastral ribs, scapula, coracoid and humerus.
