Genus: Wapuskanectes DRUCKENMILLER & RUSSELL, 2006
Etymology: Wapuska, Wabiskaw is a corruption of this word, derived from the
Cree language meaning "a body of water with whitecapes on it" (Aubrey, 1996)
and Greek, -nectes', "swimmer" (gender; masculine).

Etymology: In honor of Elizabeth ("Betsy") Nicholls, curator of marine
reptiles at the Royal Tyrell Museum of Palaeontology, for her enduring influence
on
research in Mesozoic marine vertebrates (gender: feminine).

Locality: West side of the Syncrude Base Mine (Athabasca Oil Sands deposite Syncrude Canada, Ltd), near Ft. McMurray, Lat. 57°00'57"N, Long. 111°40'28"W, Alberta Province, Canada.
Horizon: Wabiskaw Member, Clearwater Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Lowermost Albian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.
Material: Fragmentary skeleton from 13 vertebrae (cervical and dorsal), ribs, pectoral girdle, humeri, phalanx, and gastralia.
