Etymology: Malagasy, fanambinana, "good fortune": in reference to the serendipitous jacketing of the block containing the type and all three referred Indophis specimens, as well as significiant specimens of other taxa, by Joseph J. W. Serrtich.

Locality: Quarry MAD 10-24, Mahajanga Basin, Mahajana Province, Northwestern Madagascar.

Horizon: Lac Kinkony Member, Maevarano Formation.
