Etymology: Malagsay, nosy, "island" and Malagasy, mena, "red"; in reference
to the commonly used nickname for Madagascar, the Red Island.

Locality: MAD93-14, Berivota Study Area, Mahanjanga Basin, Northwesern Madagascar.

Biostratigraphy:
Age: Maastrichtian Stage, Upper Senonian subepoch, Upper Upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.
Material: Partially skeleton consisting of a large number of articulated or associated complete, nearly complete, and fragmentary vertebrae (including a partial atlas), several fragmentary ribs, and a sizable fragment of the braincase, all preserved to have been derived from the same individual because they share comparable morphology and similar preservational characteristics, represents teh same sized snake and were collected from the same small area.
