Etymology: Latin, nidus, 'nest'; referring to the place or discovery of the holotype specime, close to a dinosaur nest, and Greek, ophis, 'serpent'; a commonly used suffix for snake taxon names.

Etymology: Latin, insularis; adjuective alluding ot hte probabl island occurence of the nex taxon.

Locality: Tustea nesting site, Hateg Basin, Hunedoara County, Western Romania.

Horizon: Densus-Ciula Formation.

Age: Late Maastrichtian Stage, Upper Senonian Subepoch, Upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: A well preserved truck vertebra.
