Genus: Lunaophis ALBINO, CARRILLO-BRICENO, & NEENAN, 2016
Etymology: In reference to La Luna, denotes the origin of the material from rocks corresponding to the La Luna Formation, and Greek, ophis, 'serpent'; a commonly used suffix for snake taxon names.

Holotype: MNCN-1827

Locality: Cement quarry (Cementos Andions company), located east of Lake Maracaibo, 10 km northeast of Monay, Trujillo State, Venezuela.

Horizon: ~ 28 m above the base of the La Aguada Member, La Luna Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Cenomanian Stage, Upper Gallic subepoch, Lowest Gulf Epoch, Late Early to Early Middle Cretaceous.

Material: Vertebrae.

MNCN-1827-A: An almost complete isolated preclocal vertebra.

MNCN-1827-B: An isolated preclocal vertebra that lacks the left prezygapophysis.

MNCN-1827-C, -D: 2 isolated and incomplete precloacal vertebrae.

MNCN-1827-E: An isolated and partially preserved preclocal vertebra.

MNCN-1827-F: 5 articulated precloacal vertebrae.

MNCN-1827-G: Apoorly preserved vertebral fragment.
