Genus: Argiodontosaurus MARKE, WHITESIDE, SETHAPANICHSAKUL, CORAM, FERNANDEZ, LIPTAK, NEWHAM & BENTON, 2025
Etymology: Greek, Argio ancient Greek epithet of Dionysus, Agronius, "fierce"and Greek, donto, "tooth"; in reference to the remarkably large teeth on parts of the dentary and maxilla, and Greek, saurus, "lizard."

Etymology: In reference to the Helsby Sandstone Formation (locally called teh Otter Sandstone), Greek, petrae (genitive of petra), the latinized form of teh anciet Greek word for "rock".

Holotype: BRSUG 29950-14

Locality: Sidmouth, Devon County, England, Southern United Kingdom.

Horizon: Upper Helsby Sandston Formation (old Otter Sandstone).

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Upper Anisian Stage, Early Mid Triassic Epoch, Early Middle Triassic.

Material: The skull is distorted and lacks the rostrum, the left side is more complete than the right side, parts of the palate and braincase are damaged, articulated sequence of cervical and dorsal vertebrae, articulated pectoral and disarticulated pelvic girdles, several dorsosacroa and caudal vertebrae and the proximal limb bones.
