Genus: Kawasphenodon APESTEGUIA, 2005
Etymology: From Tehuelchean KAWAS, god of the seas; Greek, sphenos, "wedged" and Greel, odontos, "tooth": In reference to the littoral sedments where it was found.

Species: expectatus APESTEGUIA, 2005
Etymology: Expectatus because, as living today in New Zealand, sphenodontids where expected to occur in Patagonia thorughout the Cretaceous, and this fact prompted the re-examination of the fossil collections focusing on sphenodontids.

Holotype: MACN Pv RN1089

Locality: Estacia 'Los Alamitos', Rio Negro Province, northwestern Patogonia, Argentina.

Horizon: Los Alamitos Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Campanian - Early Maastrichtian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: An incomplete left dentary of an adult.

MACN Pv RN 1099a: Fragment of ?left dentary.

MACN Pv RN1099b: Fragment of ?right dentary.

Species: peligrensis APESTIGUIA, GOMEZ & ROUGIER, 2014
Etymology: In reference to the Punta Peligro locality, Chubut Province, Argentina, where the specimen was found.

Holotype: MPEF PV 1989

Locality: Punta Peligro Locality, nearly 27 km north of Comodoro Rivadavia, Chubut PRovince, Argentina.

Horizon: 'Banco Negro inferior' (BNI, Uper part of teh Hansen Member, Salamanca Formation.

BiostratigrpahY: Peligran South American Land Mammal Age.

Age: Early Palaeocene Epoch, Early Paleogene Period, Tertiary Subera, Cenozoiz Era.

Material: Incomplete left lower jaw preserving 2 teeth.
