Etymology: Latin, vadare, "to go forth," which is also the root of 'to wade'-referes to the taxon's hypothesize phylogenetic position ear the proximal end of a terrestrial-to-marine transformation series that produced the aquatic pleurosaurs-and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Etymology: In honor of the Bavarian film-make Werner Herzog for his continuing exploration of the relationships between life and time.

Locality: Solnhofen, Bayern (Bavaria) State, Germany.

Horizon: Lithographic, Solnhofen.

Biostratigraphy: Ulmense subzone, Hybonotum zone, Rebouletianum Horizon.

Age: Uppemrost Kimmeridgian Stage, Upper Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.
