Etymology: Latin, bulla, "boss" and Greek, cephalic, "head": in reference to the characteristic bony protrusions on the skull.

Etymolgoy: In honor of Professory Stanley Jackson, a former director of the Bernard Price Institute for Palaeontological Research.

Holotype: BP/1/5387

Locality: Middelvlei Farm, Laingsburg District, Western Cape Province, South Africa.

Horizon: Middle Abrahamskraal Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Lowermost Tapinocephalus zone

Age: Early Tatarian age, Guadelupian Stage, Middle Zeichstein Epoch, Middle Permian.

Material: Moderately complete skull and lower jaw with the left side and posterior part of the skull roof damaged by weathering.
