Genus: Impidens TOLCHARD, KAMMERER, BUTLER, HENDRICKX, BENOIT, ABDALA & CHOINIERE, 2021
Etymology: IsiZulu, impi, "combat" and Latin, dens, "tooth"; in reference to the autapomorphically extensive secorial tooth row in this taxon and its large and powerful appearance.

Etymology: In honor of Dr. John Hancox for his pioneering work on the Cricodon-Ufudocyclops subzone.

Locality: Farm Thala, Buffel's Kuil 11: 31°54.531'S, 26°47.444'E, approximately 3.4 km northwest of Sterkstroom, Inkwanca local municipality, Chris Hani District Municipality, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.

Biostratigraphy: Cricodon-Ufudocyclops Subzone, Cynognathus AZ, Beaufort Group.

Age: Spathian Stage, uppermost Scythian Epoch to Anisian Stage, lowermost Mid Triassic Epoch, Early to Middle Triassic.

Material: Right lateroventral portion of a rostrum and patial zygomatic arch adn basicranial grinder.

Referred material:

BP/1/8123: Left maxillary fragment preserving the roots of canine, PC1 and PC4, and the badly damaged crowns of PC2 and PC3, right parital snout.
