Genus: Jirahgorgon MACUNGO, ARAUJO, RUBIDGE, DAY, DOLLMAN & BENOIT, 2026
Etymology: In honor of Dr. Sifelani Jirah, curator of the Karoo collectiosn of the Evolutionary Studies institue, for his tremendous contribution to the discovery and preparation of middle Permian Karoo therapsids, and forgon, in reference to the order Gorgonopsia.
Species: ceto MACUNGO, ARAUJO, RUBIDGE, DAY, DOLLMAN & BENOIT, 2026
Etymology: In honor of teh wife of Phorcys and the mother of the Gorgons in Greek mythology.
Holotype: BP/1/8260
Locality: Farm Wilgerbonfontein (known as Wilgerbos), cadastral plot Wilgerbosch fontein 62, Laingsburg Local Municipality, 33°5.341'S, 21°13.277'E, Central Karoo District, Western Cape Province, South Africa.
Horizon: Grootfontein Member, lower middle Abrahmaskraal Formation.
Biostratigraphy: ?Lower Tapinocephalus zone.
Age: Early Tatarian age, Guadelupian Stage, Middle Zeichstein Epoch, Middle Permian.
Material: A complee skull wiht occluded lower jaw.
